Art Kleiner, editor-in-chief of strategy+business and best-selling author, joins Jerry and Monique Sternin, founders of Positive Deviance, in headlining OD Network Conference 2007, to be held October 21-24 in Baltimore.
As the conference opening keynoter, Kleiner draws on his work in The Age of Heretics and Who Really Matters to speak on Power and Legitimacy in the Living Organization. Conference participants will learn to work more effectively with living systems: hierarchies as they are rather than as they should be, networks of weak links, and the market-driven flow of goods and services.
The Sternins, who have used Positive Deviance to address child hunger, HIV-AIDS risk reduction, female genital mutilation, and hospital infection rates, present on Organization Change from the Inside Out. Other keynote speakers include Trabian Shorters of Technology Works For Good on leadership and innovation, as well as Larry Milan of ING U.S. and Marta Brito Pérez of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on talent management.
Additional highlights of the four-day conference include a community dialogue with cast and crew members from HBO’s Peabody-award-winning show The Wire on Systems in Distress and a workshop on “communities of practice” in the online world Second Life. Over 50 learning sessions discuss issues and trends in the for-profit, nonprofit, and government sectors, while pre- and post-conference workshops provide intensive professional development for today’s change agents. Conference keynotes and selected sessions will be webcast live.
OD Network Conference 2007 is sponsored by the Organization Development Network, a U.S. based international association of professionals in organization and human systems development. According to the organization’s mission statement, “Organization development is a field central to creating effective and healthy human systems in an inclusive world community.” Organization development professionals work in such areas as change management, leadership development, strategic planning, training, and human resources, among others.
