Sharing the Wealth Award
In Honor of Kathie Dannemiller
Purpose of the Award
- To acknowledge individuals within the field of OD who, like Kathie Dannemiller, have freely shared their knowledge, expertise, and methods with others, thus clearly demonstrating the spirit and values of generosity.
- To recognize individuals who have committed significant talent, time, and energy to ensure that others in the field are valued for their potential and recognized for their diverse and unique professional gifts, and who, through mentoring and embodying key values, will enable such gifts to be sustained through future generations of OD professionals.
Criteria for This Award
This award honors individuals who consistently and willingly share their wealth of knowledge and expertise over an extended period of time, embodying the values of generosity, giving voice, calling into greatness, and connecting the head and the heart –actions that represent Kathie Dannemiller’s core values and are identified with her approach to change work. Such a sustained contribution might involve:
- Inviting less seasoned professionals to actively partner in “stretch” projects, work assignments, and internships.
- Showcasing the excellent work of new and emerging practitioners in the field of OD.
- Consistently and visibly embodying the core values of OD in their work.
- Integrating spiritual and cognitive approaches in their to organizational change work.
- Demonstrating a passionate belief that everyone in a community can make a significant contribution, and working to ensure that all voices are valued and heard.
Nominations should include examples of behavior that fulfill the above bulleted criteria.
Preference will be given to nominees who are current members of the OD Network.
Kathie Dannemiller is remembered by many as a generous friend, a gifted teacher/mentor, and one of the most respected consultants of her era. The co-founder of Dannemiller Tyson Associates, she devoted her life to bringing about progressive change in communities, governments, for-profit, and not-for-profit organizations throughout the world. Her passionate, engaging, and direct style affected many people profoundly both by what she said and did, and also how she listened, helping them discover new ways to move toward their vision of success. Being an OD consultant was more than a career for Kathie, it was a useful and meaningful way to live and express her beliefs and values about social justice, empowerment, generosity, and effective interaction among people with varying backgrounds and agendas. Kathie made significant contributions to the theory and practice of OD by co-inventing a new approach to working with large, complex issues. Now known as Whole-Scale Change, Kathie taught and used this approach around the world in hundreds of organizations and communities.
